At Design + Diplomacy, we relish the impermanence of things and embrace change as a core design ethos. Life is too short to play it safe—to fear colour, to avoid risks. The real adventure lies in those moments when we step beyond our comfort zones and into the unknown—because that’s where the magic happens.
In that spirit, our Creative Director, Nicole Langelier, recently collaborated with About Space Lighting to showcase their ‘Cambio’ range. Cambio—the Italian word for change—perfectly encapsulates the essence of their modular lighting system, which allows you to evolve your space effortlessly, be spontaneous, and adapt on a whim.
This philosophy aligned beautifully with our approach to The Musk Stick Apartment, a vibrant Fitzroy warehouse conversion that celebrates colour, whimsy, and connection. The Cambio collection was the perfect finishing touch for our eclectic kitchen, offering a wide range of components in different shapes and sizes, enabling us to create a custom look tailored to the space.
One of the collection’s greatest strengths is its flexibility. While we had an initial layout in mind, we found ourselves reconfiguring the pieces on-site—swapping shades, adjusting color combinations, and varying heights to maximize impact from every angle, including the hallway. The process was dynamic, playful, and—most importantly—fun.
We also took full advantage of Cambio’s coloured cords, using them to reference key design elements like the pink cube and blue rubber flooring, seamlessly tying the space together.
The latest Cambio collection expands on this versatility, introducing additional components, cables, downlights, and even a playful table lamp version—all offering the same modular adaptability. And while we at D+D are firm believers that colour is nothing to fear, this range makes it just as easy to create a sleek, monochromatic fixture for a more minimalist look.
